Frequently Asked Questions

What is High Peaks Bible Fellowship?

High Peaks Bible Fellowship is an independent, non-denominational Bible fellowship. This group of Bible-believing Christians meets regularly for teaching, encouragement, fellowship, prayer, support, and service as we all grow toward maturity in the faith.

What is the purpose of High Peaks Bible Fellowship?

The primary purpose of High Peaks Bible Fellowship is to uphold the truths of God's Word. We believe that the local church should focus on equipping the saints to do the work of ministry and service that God desires. To that end, our regular gatherings are devoted to fostering Christian growth and maturity in the lives of those in attendance. We believe that "church growth" will come about because of the work of God rather than through the schemes of men, and that it will be the direct result of the effective ministry of the Word of God (Acts 6:7).

How is the Bible taught at High Peaks Bible Fellowship?

Our primary teaching format is the expository, verse-by-verse explanation of the Word of God. This method follows the biblical pattern of reading the Word, explaining the meaning, and applying its principles to our lives today (Neh 8:8; Col 4:16; 1 Thess 5:27; Rev 1:3). Using this method over time, the entire counsel of God is taught in the context in which it was originally given (Acts 20:27). Doctrinal or topical messages will periodically be taught, but the mainstay of Bible teaching is the expository approach.

What does High Peaks Bible Fellowship believe?

High Peaks Bible Fellowship is a conservative, evangelical group that believes in all of the fundamentals of the Bible. Please refer to the extended "Statement of Faith" which outlines in detail the doctrinal beliefs of High Peaks Bible Fellowship.

How is High Peaks Bible Fellowship financially supported?

The ministries of High Peaks Bible Fellowship are financially supported through the gifts of those it serves. It is our goal, however, to provide biblical teaching to anyone who desires to grow in their faith, regardless of their ability to support this ministry. "Freely you received; freely give" (Matt 10:8).

What does it mean to be saved or born again?

The terms saved and born again are simply ways of referring to having a right relationship with the one true God. They imply that something has damaged that relationship, and indeed it is difficult to understand these terms without first understanding what has happened to damage the relationship between God and mankind.

In the beginning, everything God created was "good" -- including man and woman. However, as a result of temptation by Satan and man's willful disobedience to God, the first man and woman fell into a state of bondage to sin that they could do nothing to rescue themselves from. The Bible describes this when it says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Rom 3:23). Being in this sinful state puts a person under the wrath of God -- "For the wages of sin is death."

With this background in mind, it is easier to see why a person would need to be "saved." But nothing that any person can do would ever be enough to rescue himself or anyone else from bondage to the sin that has twisted the very nature of mankind. This is the 'bad news' about the state of mankind.

The 'good news', however, is that God Himself has come to the rescue of fallen mankind. The Bible says it this way: "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life." (Rom 5:8-10) The Lord Jesus Christ took upon Himself all of the punishment and wrath that each of us deserves. As our substitute, He paid the price required to set us free from bondage to sin, and He offers us this salvation as a free gift -- "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom 6:23)

In order to be saved, each one of us must accept the gift that is offered to us by God. We accomplish this by faith, which means understanding these facts regarding man's need and Christ's work on our behalf, acknowledging that these facts are true, and completely relying on Christ's death in your place. As the Bible says concerning one man who was seeking God, "He said, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' They said, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved' " (Acts 16:30-31). Your faith is like the outstretched, empty hand which receives the free gift being offered you by God.

Once you acknowledge and accept the free gift of salvation, God graciously gives you a new nature -- a new desire and power to seek Him and to do what He desires for you. This is sometimes referred to as being 'born again' because it like being given a whole new life.

Won't you recieve the gift of God's salvation today? It is a simple process -- as simple as A - B - C:

  1. Admit that you are a sinner who needs rescuing.
  2. Believe in what Christ has done for you on the cross.
  3. Confess your faith in Christ as your hope for salvation.

Change you attitude toward sin, put your trust in what Christ has done on your behalf, and make your decision today!
